Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 July 2026

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Sloclap SAS ("Sloclap", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores and protects personal data when you use Rematch Esports, including rematchesports.com and related esports features, tournaments, player profiles and community services (the "Service").

Rematch Esports is an esports platform endorsed and supported by Sloclap. Sloclap is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service under applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("EU GDPR"), the UK GDPR, and other applicable privacy laws.

Controller details:

Information We Collect

Player profiles created from tournament data

Rematch Esports maintains esports player and team profiles to provide tournament history, rankings, statistics and community features.

Some profiles are created automatically, before the person they describe creates an account, using esports competition data obtained from third-party tournament platforms — principally start.gg, through its official API.

Information in these profiles may include:

  • Player name or gamertag used in competitions
  • A start.gg player identifier and profile slug (used to match competition data to the profile)
  • Tournament participation, match results and placements
  • Player and team statistics
  • Team affiliations and rosters
  • Achievements and awards

These profiles let us maintain accurate esports records and provide public competitive history. They are created from data you entered into a public tournament under your own gamertag, and are limited to competition information. If a profile describes you, you can claim it, correct it, or ask us to anonymise it — see "Your Rights" and "Linking and verifying your start.gg account" below.

Signing in and linking a profile (Discord)

You can create an account by signing in with Discord. We request only Discord's basic identify permission. Through it, Discord provides:

  • Your Discord user ID
  • Your Discord username
  • Your Discord display name

We store your Discord user ID and username to identify your account, and use your display name to set your initial profile name. We do not receive your email address from Discord, and we never receive or store your Discord password.

If your Discord account is already associated with an existing player profile, signing in links you to that profile; otherwise a new profile is created for you. To claim, link or correct a profile, contact us at the address above.

Linking and verifying your start.gg account (optional)

If a competition profile was created for you, or you want to confirm that a profile is yours, you can verify ownership of your start.gg account from your account settings using start.gg's official sign-in ("Verify with start.gg"). This confirms, directly with start.gg, that you control the account.

When you complete this sign-in, start.gg provides your start.gg player identifier, your profile slug, and your current competition gamertag. We store your verified player identifier and slug, record the date you verified, and add your gamertag to your in-game aliases (used, like your other aliases, to match your screenshots and results to your profile).

Verifying confirms the profile is yours, lets you upload your own match statistics, and ensures your results are credited to your account rather than a separate profile. It is optional: your results are still attached to your profile through the normal tournament import whether or not you verify. To unlink or correct a verified start.gg account, contact us at the address above.

Linking your Steam account (optional)

You may optionally link a Steam account to your profile from your account settings, using Steam's official sign-in ("Sign in through Steam"). This only confirms your Steam identity — it does not give us access to your Steam password, friends list, purchase history, or any other Steam data beyond what is described below.

When you link your Steam account, we receive your SteamID64 through Steam's sign-in confirmation. We then use the Steam Web API to retrieve your public Steam display name ("persona name") and your Steam profile URL.

We store your SteamID64, Steam display name, Steam profile URL, and the date you linked your account. Your Steam display name is used, in the same way as your in-game aliases, to help match your competitive screenshots and results to your profile, and is refreshed when we process your uploaded screenshots so it stays current.

This information is private to your account and our staff; it is not shown on your public profile. You can unlink your Steam account at any time from your account settings, which removes this stored information going forward.

Account information

Once you have an account, we may also hold:

  • Authentication identifiers and session information
  • Your account roles and permissions
  • An email address only if you choose to provide one (email is optional and is not required to use the Service)
  • Account settings and preferences

Information you provide

You may choose to add optional content to your profile, including a display name, country/region, profile photo, banner image or video, team information, and known in-game names ("aliases"). Aliases are kept private to your account and are used to match your performances to you (see below). Please avoid putting information you do not want to be public into fields that are publicly displayed.

Match statistics and game screenshots

To record match results, users may upload screenshots of in-game scoreboards. We process these screenshots using an automated, AI-based optical-character-recognition step provided by Anthropic (Claude API) to read player names and statistics from the image. Extracted statistics are matched to player profiles using stored in-game aliases and are reviewed by our staff before being accepted and published.

Uploaded screenshots are stored and may be displayed publicly on the relevant match or game page as a record of the result. Screenshots may contain the in-game names of the players shown.

Public profile information

Rematch Esports is built around public esports profiles and competition records. Depending on the profile and activity, publicly visible information may include:

  • Username, display name and public profile URL
  • Country or region
  • Current and previous teams, and team ownership
  • Tournament participation, match history and placements
  • Player and team statistics
  • Achievements and badges
  • Profile and team images, banners and videos
  • Match screenshots

Information classed as private — your email address, account roles, linked Discord, Steam and start.gg identifiers, and your in-game aliases — is restricted to you and our staff and is not shown publicly.

Technical information

We do not collect device or browsing data directly within the application database. However:

  • Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically processes standard server and request information — such as IP address, browser and device type, and request logs — to deliver, secure and operate the Service.
  • We use Sentry for error monitoring, performance measurement and security (Content Security Policy) reporting. When something goes wrong, or your browser blocks content that would breach our Content Security Policy, a diagnostic report may be sent to Sentry (see "Error monitoring and security reporting" below).
  • With your consent, Google Analytics collects usage information (see Analytics and Cookies below).

Analytics information

Where you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors interact with the Service. This may include pages viewed, session duration, approximate (city-level) location, device and browser information, and traffic sources. Analytics only runs after you accept analytics cookies.

Error monitoring and security reporting

We use Sentry to detect and diagnose technical errors, measure performance, and receive security reports, so that we can keep the Service working and safe. Unlike analytics, this is part of operating and securing the Service: it runs whether or not you accept analytics cookies, and it does not set advertising or tracking cookies.

Two kinds of report may be sent to Sentry:

  • Error and performance reports — if the Service encounters an error while you are using it, a diagnostic report may be generated. This can include the page or feature where the error occurred, your browser and device type, a technical stack trace, a short trail of the actions that led up to the error, and your IP address. We have configured Sentry not to attach your account identity to these reports.
  • Security (Content Security Policy) reports — your browser sends a report to Sentry when it blocks content that would breach our Content Security Policy, which helps us detect misconfigurations and possible attacks. These reports include the blocked resource, the page it occurred on, and basic browser information.

We have chosen to store this data in Sentry's European (EU) data region. Reports are used only to operate, debug and secure the Service, and are retained for a limited period.

Sources of Personal Data

We collect personal data from:

  • You directly — when you sign in, verify or link an account, edit your profile, upload screenshots, or contact us.
  • Tournament platforms (start.gg) — competition data via its official API, including player and team identifiers, participation, results, rankings and statistics; and, if you choose to verify your account, your verified start.gg player identifier, slug and gamertag via start.gg's sign-in.
  • Discord — authentication information (ID, username, display name) when you sign in.
  • Steam — via Steam's sign-in confirmation and the Steam Web API, when you choose to link your Steam account, including your SteamID64, display name and profile URL.
  • Automatically — server/request data via our hosting provider; error, performance and security reports via Sentry; and analytics data via Google Analytics where you consent.

How We Use Personal Data

We use personal data to:

  • Create and maintain esports player and team profiles
  • Let users sign in, verify, link and manage profiles
  • Confirm ownership of a profile when you verify your start.gg account
  • Provide tournament history, rankings, statistics and achievements
  • Read and record match statistics from uploaded screenshots, and verify them before publishing
  • Operate competitions and community features
  • Maintain accurate, public competitive records
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Service and prevent abuse
  • Detect, diagnose and fix errors, and monitor the performance and security of the Service
  • Respond to requests and support enquiries
  • Analyse usage where you consent
  • Comply with legal obligations

Legal Bases for Processing

  • Legitimate interests — maintaining esports records and public player/team directories, creating and preserving competition history from tournament data, providing rankings and statistics, preventing fraud and abuse, and monitoring, debugging and securing the Service (including error and security reporting).
  • Performance of a contract — creating and operating your account and the features you take part in.
  • Consent — analytics cookies and the data they collect, and the optional linking of your Discord, Steam or start.gg accounts. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligations — where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.

Our legitimate interests balancing. Where we create and maintain player profiles from tournament data before the person has an account, we rely on legitimate interests. We have weighed this against your rights and consider it proportionate because: the data originates from public competitions you entered under your own gamertag, where publication of results is expected; we limit the profile to competition information and identifiers needed to keep records accurate; the resulting records support fair, transparent and verifiable competitive history for the whole community; and you can object at any time, after which we anonymise your profile as described below. We keep a record of this assessment and review it as the Service changes. If you would like more information about this balancing, contact us at the address above.

Cookies

Essential cookies are required for the Service to function and do not require consent. These include the session cookie that keeps you signed in, and short-lived cookies used only during the Discord, Steam and start.gg sign-in processes.

Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics and are used only after you accept them. Analytics are denied by default until you choose otherwise. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (it is not sent to our servers), and you can change or withdraw it at any time using "Cookie settings" in the site footer.

Who We Share Personal Data With

We do not sell personal data. We share data with a small number of providers that help us run the Service:

  • start.gg — tournament data source (official API), and account verification when you choose to verify.
  • Discord — authentication when you sign in.
  • Steam (Valve Corporation) — to let you sign in and link your Steam account, and to retrieve your public Steam display name and profile URL.
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — automated reading of statistics from uploaded match screenshots.
  • Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — error monitoring, performance measurement and security (Content Security Policy) reporting, with data stored in Sentry's EU region.
  • Google Analytics — analytics, only with your consent.
  • Vercel — website hosting and database hosting (our database runs on Vercel Postgres, which is powered by Neon).
  • Cloudflare — media and image storage (R2).

We may also disclose information to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights and safety of users or Sloclap, or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition.

International Data Transfers

The Service is available internationally, and several of our providers (including Anthropic, Google, Vercel, Cloudflare, Discord, Valve (Steam) and start.gg) are based in or process data in the United States. Sentry is a US-based provider, but we have selected its European (EU) data region so that error, performance and security reports are stored in the EU. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or other recognised legal transfer mechanisms.

Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

  • Account information is retained while your account is active.
  • Public esports profiles, tournament results, statistics, achievements and match screenshots may be retained to preserve competition history, rankings and integrity.
  • Error, performance and security reports sent to Sentry are retained for a limited period in line with Sentry's retention settings.
  • Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' retention settings.

When information is no longer required, it is deleted or anonymised where appropriate. You may ask us to delete your account or anonymise your profile at any time. Because we maintain competitive records, we may need to retain match results, statistics and placements to preserve tournament integrity — where we do, we retain them in anonymised form, detached from your name, gamertag, aliases, country and your public linked accounts, so that the historical record remains accurate without continuing to identify you publicly. As explained under "Your Rights", this may include a suppressed internal start.gg identifier and any match screenshots that form part of that competition record.

Your Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to request a copy of it, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Because Rematch Esports is built around competition records, we handle these requests as follows:

  • Objection and erasure. You can object to us maintaining a profile about you, or ask us to erase it, by emailing privacy@rematchesports.com. Where a profile carries tournament results, we will normally fulfil this by anonymising the profile — removing your name, gamertag, aliases, country, profile images, and your linked Discord and Steam accounts, and removing the profile from search — while retaining the underlying match results and placements as an anonymous competitor, to preserve the integrity of the competitions in which others also took part. To keep those retained results correctly attributed and to prevent our tournament import from silently re-creating a profile for you from the same public competition data, we keep a single internal start.gg identifier associated with the anonymised record; it is suppressed, is not shown anywhere, and is not used to build a new profile about you. Match scoreboard screenshots that form part of the competition record may also be retained and may still display the in-game name shown in the image at the time; tell us if you would like specific screenshots reviewed. Where no such records need to be preserved, we can delete the profile outright.
  • Correction. You can correct information on your own account from your account settings, or ask us to correct a profile you have not yet claimed.
  • Access, restriction, portability and withdrawal of consent are handled on request.

To exercise your rights, contact privacy@rematchesports.com. We may ask you to verify your identity first. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).

Automated Processing

We use automated technology to read statistics from uploaded match screenshots (see "Match statistics and game screenshots"). This does not produce legal or similarly significant effects about you: extracted statistics are reviewed by our staff before they are accepted and published.

Verifying that a start.gg, Discord or Steam account belongs to you is always initiated by you and confirmed through that provider's own sign-in — we do not make automated decisions about your identity without your involvement.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children below the minimum age required under applicable law or by our sign-in provider (Discord). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in violation of applicable privacy laws. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can investigate.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration and unauthorised disclosure — including encrypted sign-in tokens and secure authentication. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Third-Party Services

The Service may contain links to or integrations with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties and recommend reviewing their privacy policies before providing personal information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we may provide notice through the Service or by other appropriate means. The date at the top indicates when it was last updated.
